How to apply the scientific method in everyday life

The scientific method is a research method that is used mainly in science. It consists of a series of steps and its main objective is to solve a problem. What many will not know, is that we use this scientific method continuously in our day to day. Although it is true that we do it without realizing it, it is convenient to know how to apply the scientific method in everyday life, as it can help us a lot to solve certain daily episodes.

Steps to follow:

one

The first thing we must do is identify the problem and describe it in detail. It can be, for example, that the computer does not work or that we do not have electricity at home. Once the problem is identified, what we will do is make observations about this incident. It is about providing data. In this case we could ask ourselves how many times it has happened to us previously, what solutions we have previously put, where do we believe the origin of the problem is, etc.

two

After collecting a series of data, something that we will do almost instinctively, we will formulate our first hypotheses to try to give an explanation of the cause of this problem. Surely, if the blackout is on the whole street, it is a generalized blackout and therefore is due to a breakdown. It could also be that our computer will not work because there is a bad cable connected.

3

After giving our hypothesis, we will have to prove this hypothesis through experimentation . That is, we can call the lighting company to ask if there is indeed an incident or breakdown and how long it will take to be solved. In the case of the computer, we can take the cable and connect it well.

4

If experimentation gives reason to our hypothesis, we will have the problem solved. If on the contrary, it does not give the reason to our hypothesis, we will have to raise a new hypothesis and experiment with it to see if we finally solve the problem.
